Every year, 1st August is observed as Oral Hygiene Day in India to comemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. G B Shankwalkar, the Doyen of Indian Periodontology and the founder of the Indian Society of Periodontology. The day aims at spreading awareness about the importance of maintaining oral hygiene and the ways to prevent several dental as well as systemic diseases. This year we geared up to celebrate the “National Oral Hygiene Day Celebration Week” from 1^st August to 9^th August 2023. We looked forward to raise awareness and enlighten minds regarding the importance of Oral Hygiene through various events and competitions.

Day 1: INAUGURATION (1^st August 2023)
Our Oral Hygiene Day celebration started with inauguration ceremony by garlanding the potrait of Late Dr. G B Shankwalkar and lightning the lamp.The gathering was addressed by Dean, Dr. Usha Radke and Vice Dean Dr. S R Shenoi. Dr. Abhay Kolte, HOD, Department of Periodontics and Implant dentistry, explained the importance of ‘Oral Hygiene Awareness’ to the patients. All the HOD’s, teaching & non-teaching staff and students were present in large numbers.
Day 2: NUKKAD NATAK: Skit Presentation by Interns  (2^nd August 2023)
Day 3: POSTER PAINTING: Theme “Oral hygiene awareness for dental undergraduates and postgraduate students (3^rd August 2023)
Day 4: DEBATE COMPETITION: Topic “To save or to Extract”.  (4^th August 2023)
Day 5: AWARENESS TALKS (5^th August 2023)
Day 6: QUIZ COMPETITIONfor Interns, Final years and Third years (7^th August 2023)
Day 7: DENTAL CHECKUP & TREATMENT CAMP (8^th August 2023)
