CDE on “Occlusion in Complete Denture”

Department of Prosthodontics and Crown and bridge at VSPM Dental College and Research Centre, Nagpur had organized guest lecture of renowned Prosthodontist of India Dr. V. Rangrajan, on “Occlusion in Complete Denture” on 11th October 2019, in collaboration with IPS Nagpur Branch.

Complete edentulism not only hampers the mastication, esthetics but also affects the psychological well-being of the patient. There has been much controversy about various concepts and the theories put forward to achieve occlusion. However, the use of these principles according to the individual merits of the case has been neglected. Each case should be thoroughly evaluated based on hard and soft tissue anatomy, resorption patterns, neuromuscular control, and patient compliance.

A balanced articulation appears to be most appropriate because of tooth contacts observed during non-functional activities of patients. Dr. Rangrajan discussed the evolution of different concepts of occlusion and occlusal schemes in complete denture occlusion. The lecture was very much appreciated by undergraduate and post-graduate students as well as interns.

During the program “Journal of Prosthetic Rehabilitation” official Publication of Indian Prosthodontic Society, Nagpur Branch was also released.
