World Cancer Day 2022
4th of February
World cancer day is celebrated worldwide on 4th of February. Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, VSPM’S DC & RC Nagpur, celebrated the same so as to make patients aware regarding the ill effects of tobacco consumption which may lead to oral cancer. A tobacco cessation centre (TCC unit ‘Sankalp’) has been established in the department according to the DCI guidelines. Information and awareness regarding the TCC unit was given to the patients present in the OPD unit.
Dr. Usha Radke Dean addressed the audience. Dr. Mukta Motwani, HOD focused on the consequences of tobacco chewing habit leading to oral cancer and gave importance to cessation of those deleterious habits along with staff members Dr. Apeksha Dhole (Balpande), Dr.Tapasya Karemore, Dr. Anurag Chaudhary , Dr. Smriti Golhar, Dr. Apurva Khator, Dr. Rucha Pandhripande.
A skit was performed on the theme of tobacco ceasation by the interns, postgraduates Dr. Rutuja Muneshwar, Dr. Trushita Banubakode, Dr. Divya Dube, Dr. Aditi Fadnavis, Dr. Kanchan Ashtankar, Dr. Shiwani Dalal, Dr. Mayuri Sonole, Dr. Ashwini Dhotarkar. The audience were made aware about the ill effects of tobacco and how it can lead to oral cancer. The gathered audience were keen in watching the skit. The students also called out slogans to encourage patients to quit tobacco. Everyone in the audience appreciated the skit. All the students performed the skit with full enthusiasm with good acting skills.
