1st October is celebrated as an ‘International Day of Older Persons’ all over the world. The purpose of this day is to highlight the important contribution of older people to the society and raise awareness, opportunities and challenges of aging in today’s world. It also focuses on the well being as well as special needs of the elderly people and to support them throughout their aging process.s This year due to Pandemic situation of Covid-19, on the occasion of ‘International Day of Older Persons’ 2020, Department of Prosthodontics- VSPMDCRC in association with Indian Prosthodontics Society Nagpur Branch organized e-poster competition and a live webinar. The speaker was Dr Gaurav Jaiswal (Consultant Prosthodontist, EC Member IPS-Nagpur Branch, Jt secretary of Geriatric Society-Nagpur Br. and Practicing Geriatric Dentist) who spoke on ‘Geriatric Dental Practice: Need of the Hour’. Dr Usha Radke, Dean VSPMDCRC welcomed the participants and stressed upon inclusive dental practice for elderly and making special efforts to make them feel comfortable during the treatment. Dr Pravin Sundarkar felicitated the speaker with a certificate. Dr Jaiswal spoke in depth about various aging features and how to cater for this population in daily clinical practice. The session was co-ordinated by Dr Saee Deshmukh- Secretary IPS Nagpur Br, attended by staff, PGs and UGs and was streamed live on facebook page of the college. On this occasion Department of Prosthodontics VSPM Dental College & Research Centre, Nagpur has organised Online E-Poster competition, titled “Awareness of oral health in geriatric people” for Post-graduate students and interns of the college. More than 90 participants submitted their entries. Dr. Neelam Pande, Professor and Dr. Jaishree Chahande, Lecturer worked hard for the success of this program. In Post- graduate category Dr. Sumeet Jalan, JR III, Dept. of Prosthodontics has received 1st prize, Dr. Simran Sangani, JR I, Dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery has received 2nd prize and Dr. Jayesh Shinde, JR II, Dept. of Prosthodontics has received 3rd prize. Dr. Ishani Bhave, JR I, Dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Dr. Priya Gupta, JR III, Dept. Of Prosthodontics got 1st and 2nd consolation prises respectively. In Interns category, Miss Prashika Chahande received 1st prize, Miss Sanjeevani Khode 2nd prize and Miss Divya Mishra received 3rd prize. Miss Anagha Weskade received 1st consolation prize and Miss Julie Kapghate and Miss Humaira Siddiquee got 2nd consolation prizes. Overall everyone’s response was appreciated by Dean, Dr. Usha Radke and Vice Dean, Dr. S. R. Shenoi, of the Institute.
